Every soldier needs a weapon and a DJ’s weapon is his equipment. Back in the day, DJs would have to purchase countless vinyl records and turntables in order to mix. Modern technology makes things a whole lot easier. There are many programs available online that DJs can use to learn mixing. Check out this list of essential DJ computer equipment.
Serato DJ
Serato DJ is one of the easiest programs to learn to use. The interface is very user-friendly and the program integrates MP3s from the iTunes servers automatically. Serato DJ also comes with beat matching software that makes it easy to mix live. It is a complete DJ mixing program and one of the best on the market.
Traktor Pro 2
Traktor Pro 2 is great for professionals and beginners alike. Native Instruments is a respected name in the DJ mixing software industry and with programs like this it’s clear to see why. Traktor 2 is easy to navigate, it comes with four track decks and color-coded waveforms. This software is used by DJs all over the world.
Virtual DJ
Atomix Productions distributes a variety of DJ mixing software. There’s the Virtual DJ Pro, the Virtual DJ Basic, the Virtual DJ OEM and the Virtual DJ Home editions. The most complete package is obviously the Virtual DJ Pro, which comes with many of the same features as the other programs on this list. Virtual DJ, however, does not have color-coded waveforms.
Deckadence 2
Although Deckadence 2 is lacking some of the more complex features of Serato DJ and Traktor Pro 2, it is still a good overall DJ mixing program. There is a slightly more expensive version of this software available that allows you to use timecoded records to expand your mixing and scratching capabilities. The DVS version of Deckadence 2 is certainly worth the extra cash.
