For some reason, which I personally don’t understand, the ‘sync’ feature on most mixing software is looked down upon. People get really offended when they hear that a DJ used the sync button in order to achieve a perfect transition.

Instead of enjoying the music, people are more preoccupied with how the DJ transitioned songs.

Therefore as a young aspiring DJ you must learn to beatmatch in order to please these club goers looking to snub.

So let me help you out by giving you 9 beatmatching tips that will help you achieve amazing transitions.

Now we are going to assume that there is a track already playing on the left CDJ and you simply want to beatmatch the new track on the right side.

Here are a few Beatmatching tips to follow if you want perfect transitions every time.

1 Load up the new track in the right CDJ.

2. Switch the cue on mixer to the right CDJ only.

3. Locate the first beat, then try to hit the play/pause button on the beat as much as possible.

4. Use the jog wheel to locate the first beat precisely. As an option, you can hit the cut button repeatedly to figure out if the cue point is good, the beat should be exactly when you hit it.

5. After fixing the gains in order to assure that the track volumes match, you must listen to the currently playing track and wait for a beat. Hit the play/pause button on the right CDJ exactly on the beat.

The actual beatmatching starts here. This is where the beatmatching tips will come in handy. SO PAY ATTENTION!

6. Nobody is be able to hit the play button exactly on beat. You WILL HAVE to use the jog wheel to bring the beats into sync. Use the jog on the right CDJ to align the beats.

7 If you are turning the jog in one direction and beats are diverging instead of matching then simply turn it the other way.

8. At this point you will need to let the track ride. This simply means that once the beats are in sync, stop touching buttons and simply listen. If beats start going off it means the track BPMs are not matched. If you have to keep turning jog right, pitch up the track a bit, otherwise pitch it down.

9. Repeat this until the BPMs are matched and you don’t have to turn the jog to keep them aligned, i.e. they won’t diverge any more.

Yeah! You have just officially beatmached 2 songs on CDJ. You are not ready to take on the world…

Remember, after you’ve beatmatched the two songs you will still need to actually transition. So work the EQ’s and the line fader to create a nice blend. Eventually take out the left track completely.

Following my beatmatching tips and PRACTICING A LOT, will ensure that you are ready to walk into any club with nothing more then a USB and be able rock the place. Like everything in life, practice makes perfect so make sure you dedicate a lot of time to perfecting your craft.
