In order to make a mashup, it’s helpful to know how to mix acapellas with instrumentals. An acapella recording features only vocals, no instrumental line. A mashup is a composition that blends two or more pre-recorded songs in a seamless mix. This is often achieved by overlaying the vocal track of one song over the instrumental track of another. In some music circles, mashups are called bootlegs, but they are essentially the same thing. Mixing acapellas with instrumentals can be done by following these three simple steps.
Find An Acapella Track
Sometimes, finding an acapella track can be a little bit tricky. Not every artist releases official versions of their acapellas but fortunately a lot of producers do. There are plenty of sites online where people can download official studio acapella tracks and, in some cases, unofficial acapella tracks. If you can’t find one, it is possible to remove most of the instrumental backing of a song but this is something that requires a lot of skill and knowledge.
Find An Instrumental Track
Instrumental tracks are usually easier to find than acapellas. Karaoke is a very popular pastime, which means that instrumental versions of most popular songs will be readily available. If for some reason an instrumental cannot be found online, there is a way to make it from scratch. Producers can listen to a song, find a spot without any vocals and then loop that section to create an instrumental.
Mix The Tracks Together
Mixing acapellas with instrumentals is exactly the same as mixing two songs together. The same programs that are used for live sets can be used to make a mashup. The acapella’s beats per minute and harmonics (key) just need to match with the instrumental track. If these things do not match then the mashup will not sound right. It is crucial that the songs blend well together.
Acapellas and instrumentals are not scary. They are simply ingredients that can be used in a recipe.
