Since the dawn of time musicians have dreamed of achieving celebrity status, but now it seems the tables have turned as celebrities strive for DJ status. Is being a popular DJ the end-all-be-all of today’s stardom? With EDM music becoming increasingly more popular than other trends, who knows?

Celebrity DJs are probably not the worst of the worst and definitely not the best of the best. ‘Celebrity DJs: The Good and The Bad’ will help you see past their ridiculous cover charges and whether these celebrity DJs are worth the hype.

Paris Hilton

There are as many reasons to become a DJ as there are actual DJs. Some are in the club anyway and figure, “I’m here so much I should get paid,” and some think their name would sound a lot better with ‘DJ’ attached to it. Paris Hilton probably thought both of these things when she attainted her celebrity DJ status.

Paris has been a proud EDM supporter for years. Her visits to the annual Electric Daisy Carnival festival dubbed her as EDM royalty and although a decade old, her ‘Best Celebrity DJ’ award at Miami’s Winter Music Conference is not to be forgotten. While at first, the reality-television-princess-turned-DJ may seem like a joke, world-renowned club owners are paying top-dollar for her DJ appearances. Paris has apparently been paid up to $1 million per gig at clubs in China, Dubai and Ibiza.

Pauly D

Apparently Pauly D does more than just ‘Gym, Tan, Laundry’, as Forbes recently listed him as one the highest paid DJs. DJing over 130 shows per year at an average of $40,000 per show, Pauly D isn’t just rolling in hair gel anymore. The DJ has launched three solo albums along with his own line of pre-gaming cocktails and 50 Cent-endorsed headphones.

Hodor from ‘Game of Thrones’

When he isn’t hauling Bran Stark around Winterfell, Hodor can be found mixing house music for his Soundcloud. Actually, Hodor (Kristian Nairn) was a DJ long before taking on his role in the popular television series, ‘Game of Thrones’. Much to the excitement of house music and ‘Game of Thrones’ fans alike, Nairn kicked off a ‘Rave of Thrones’ tour in New York City complete with an Iron Throne, themed costumes and dragon fire.

Elijah Wood

Elijah Wood (alias ‘Wooden Wisdom a.k.a. DJ Frodo’) has been DJing long before he lived in the Shire. Along with his partner Zach Cowie, he has performed at some pretty notable events including a pre-Emmy party, the Bushmills Live festival, and the commencement for the June 2014 FantasyCon in Salt Lake City.

Samantha Ronson

Samantha Ronson’s career in DJing began completely by chance. Upon being asked randomly to DJ at a club she frequented in her hometown of Santa Monica, Ca, she took the gig and started to make a name for herself. Ronson’s DJ stardom eventually landed her in the arms of former girlfriend, Lindsay Lohan, in 2007. This relationship put Ronson on the cover of tabloids everywhere and made her a household name. Today she spins some of the most high-profile DJ gigs in the world including the Super Bowl, Pan American Games, Sundance Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival to name a few.
