Why DJing Without Turntables Had To Happen

It is pretty crazy how much DJing has changed over the years. Nowadays, everyone has gone digital but a few years ago vinyl was the standard. As electronic dance music became more popular and technology advanced DJing without turntables started becoming the norm.

Although the benefits of digital DJing are obvious to us now, for a while purists tried to fight its introduction. The Pioneer CDJ was shunned when it was first released. DJs that switched over to digital from vinyl were laughed at.

That all changed when it became clear that the advantages of digital DJing far outweighed the downsides. People still argue that you’ll never get the same sound from a computer than you would from a turntable but the Pioneer CDJs definitely come close.

Today, vinyl DJing is simply not practical. How would you expect Calvin Harris to maintain his collection of records as he travels to a different city every night? Do you want Tiesto to have thousands of vinyls stacked behind his booth?

Digital DJing gives you a way to store an endless amount of songs on something as small as a USB. Music is shared all over the word in the blink of an eye and artists are constantly releasing new material.

Over the past few years, electronic dance music has made its way into the mainstream. DJs became more popular and suddenly you had every teenager on the planet trying to learn how to mix.

Digital DJing has made producing original tracks easier than ever. Programs like Ableton allow you to do everything from your laptop. This gives you the ability to test your songs on live audiences and get immediate feedback, something many DJs are know to do.

Vinyl and turntables will always hold a special place in DJing history. The feeling you get when you scratch a record is unlike another but DJing without turntables is something that had to happen.
