There is no stopping the powerhouse that is Australian standout producer, Flume. His massive likability as an artist has reached a global standpoint, earning him the title for “Most Influential Person in Dance Music” at Australia’s In The Mix awards. Flume wasn’t able to physically claim his award since he is currently touring in the U.S. Luckily for us, one of the stops on this tour was this past weekend in Los Angeles where he played 3 consecutive shows.

Flume brought on an amazing bill of supporting acts for his entire show, including one of Britain’s latest emerging talents, Sophie, and rapper Gold Link. Impressive openers aside, nothing lived up to the energy and overall experience created by Flume’s set. We at DJMC have three separate reviews detailing Flume’s Nokia Live series in downtown Los Angeles. In typical Flume fashion, none of his sets were similar to another. Check out the reviews of Flume at Club Nokia below.

Despite our melodramatic disappointment, Flume’s show was nothing short of awesome. He satisfied the crowd perfectly, balancing his more mellow tracks with high-energy tunes all night. His visuals were a noteworthy part of the show and when the “You and Me” video flashed in the background, I couldn’t help singing along as loud as the fourteen-year-old girls to my right.

The fireworks and balloon drop were also pretty epic, and by the end of the night, the $70 over face value that we paid for our tickets was well worth it. It was a fun night of great music with great friends and I will definitely try to catch Flume again.

The wave of emotions emanating from Flume’s performance were colorfully replicated by hypnotizing visuals that evoked the raw beauty and appreciation of the art we call music. Although he played expected crowd favorites like “Holdin’ On” and his Lorde and Disclosure remixes, I was anxiously awaiting his remix of Ta-Ku’s “Higher.”

Upon its arrival, Flume surprised the crowd as he slipped in a sample of Jay-Z’s “Dirt Off Your Shoulder.” This moment gained him even more fans as he proceeded to silence the crowd in preparation for a slow, mystical melody that was about to captivate their spirits. He introduced the track as “the one that made everything possible” – “Insane.” As the performance came to an end, I realized that Flume is not just a talented musician but also a full on audio/visual experience—one that left me feeling refreshed and inspired by his energy.

The show easily distinguished itself from any other show at Nokia Live. Flume represents a style of music that goes beyond EDM and into something more organic, pure, and inexplicably amazing. His set had notable moments in which each song conveyed a unique feeling of its own. He began the night with one of his most notable tracks off his album, “Sleepless”, which started off the night in such a wonderfully authentic way.

It’s amazing to witness a crowd that knows every track by heart, a feat very few artists can achieve, Flume being one of them. It’s a surreal experience when everyone is singing louder than the track itself.

Another notable moment happened when he played his What So Not, remix of Major Lazer’s ‘Get Free’— a crowd pleaser of its own. Seeing people enjoy the vibe he set forth made me realize how powerful Flume’s music really is. Although that was my fourth time seeing Flume, it definitely won’t be my last.
